About me:

Hi, my name is Larry Smith. I am a photographer and the owner of Purple Larry Photos LLC. I am Chicago-based, living in the Andersonville neighborhood.

I specialize in portrait, headshot and event photography. Making pictures that reflect people in their best light is a privilege for me. People’s memories of themselves and events in which they partake are often from the pictures they see.

I first began taking pictures as a journalism student in the 1980s. Although I was a newspaper reporter, I found myself drawn to taking photos whenever I could. Bending the ear of photojournalists I worked with was a common occurrence for me.

Over the years, I’ve pursued my passion through attending photography workshops and seminars around the country, and even overseas.

That has led to colleagues and friends looking at my images and asking me to take pictures of them and their families. My photos have also been published in newspapers, magazines and online news sites.
